On Saturday April 26, the Florida Parishes Skeet and Conservation Association will host the eleventh annual Samuel C. Hyde, Sr. Youth Skeet Shooting Competition. The event will be held on the beautiful grounds of the Skeet Club just east of Amite on the Tangipahoa River. Registration will open at 10am and the competition will begin at 10:30am.
For many years, conservationists have been working to maintain what is left of the Louisiana coastline. The Louisiana coastline contains about 40 percent of the nation’s wetland and often experiences 90 percent of the coastal wetland loss. Majority of the land loss is in the Barataria and Terrebonne basins.
On Wednesday, April 2, St. Helena Parish celebrated the grand opening of the Hornsby Road Bridge off Louisiana Highway 16 in Pine Grove.

Man killed by train

AMITE - An Amtrak passenger train struck and killed a man Friday Afternoon. "The City of New Orleans" is an Amtrak passenger train that provides service from New Orleans to Chicago, Illinois.



Edward Allen Morris, 61, a resident of Magnolia, died April 12, 2014 in Nashville, TN. He was born May 4, 1952 in Franklinton, LA. He was the son of the late Edward R. and Faye Lea Morris.
