It was a fast start to the week for the Amite Police Department on Monday August 18. "We got a call about 6:35 in the morning and members of our department quickly responded," said Amite Police Chief Jerry Trabona.

On Friday, August 15, the sleepy village of Tickfaw witnessed a little bit of preservation of history, as a former Illinois Central Gulf railroad caboose rolled into town on a lowboy trailer. The caboose was set up on private property near Malnar Tire Mart. The owner reportedly will renovate the caboose and make it a "man-cave".
