NFL Fans are stuck in the middle

Last week, the now so-called De-certified NFLPA held their meetings to discuss many things but the obvious, of course, was that the current Lockout in the National Football League took top billing. And this week in the land of the “Who Dats”, the 32 owners of that very same league will come together and try and iron out things so we can all get back to football. Right?

At this point, who knows? I have said it before, and I’ll say it again, I’m for football. I can see points being made on both sides, and I’m not sure who will win out here when-and-if this current standoff comes to an end.

But what I do know is that the people that live and die football, the people that budget their annual expenses around the NFL and the people who buy jerseys, wear team colors, pay $20 to park and another eight for a hot dog are the ones stuck in the middle. Yep, those people are the fans.

Granted, at this point, things are still a good bit away as far as football games. But as the month of April approaches, many things that would normally be taking place at this time are not, and that is due to the current lockout.

I think that we can all take a deep breath and come to our own little comfortable conclusion that there will be football again. But what wears on our precious little football-crazed minds the most is the question of when will football begin again!

Each side has fired off a couple of rounds at each other, but what amazes me is that both the NFL and it’s owners, as well as the players, are going back and forth at each other like they are the only people that are hearing, watching and reading all of this jargon that most of us, including myself, find very hard to understand.

I mean, what’s the big deal? Just figure it out and get back to work. Now I know that we as common men and women can’t understand the nuts and bolts of this billion dollar business, but what we common men and women folk do understand is work!

When our bosses tell us to do something we do it, or else! Can I see what my boss brings in and tell my boss that "you are already making enough money so why do you want to make more"? And on the flip side, if the business that we are in or work for is losing money, then shouldn’t some obvious numbers show that it is not making money?

The players don’t want more they just want what they are getting. The owners claim that at the current rate the NFL will not be as strong long term if it does not correct and or modify a few things.

As I sit here in the Roosevelt waiting to hear and see what will be said this week, my head starts to throb and I’m now reaching for another Aspirin, which will be my first of many over the next four days. The only thing that I truly understand is that the fans are the ones that care the most and they are smack dab stuck in the middle while these Elephants continue to fight!

I use the word Elephants to describe both the NFL and the NFLPA. Elephants are the largest land animals alive and, in sports, there is no question that the NFL and its players are the largest professional sports figures that also are doing battle on land!

So when this is all over with, it will be the fans that are asked to be patient as promise after promise from both sides will continue to be made about “Us” getting back to football soon! Let’s hope that “Us”, which is the entire NFL, keeps their word. They, the NFL, owe it to the fans.

And since I’m talking Elephants here, you know there is an ole saying about Elephants when they standoff and began to fight. And that saying is, 'when Elephants fight they kill the grass which they fight on'.

Right now, the fans serve as the grass and it’s killing us all that there is no football. Although some will down play this fight, it is much more significant to many people and their everyday lives than most of us will ever know.

Hey NFL, do like the rest of us and get back to work!
