KENTWOOD - The Kentwood Kangaroos were looking to get back to their winning ways last Friday night as they were coming off a by-week. The Roos were hoping not to get caught looking ahead to this week's big district title showdown with rival Southern Lab.

The Roos looked sharp in a big 34-13 win over Miller McCoy. The Roos Defense forced several turnovers in the game. The Roos Defense was responsible for picking off two passes in their big win and Kentwood's Defense also recovered two fumbles.

The Roos got on the board in the first quarter with two big scores. Kentwood broke the ice when quarterback Harlan Miller tossed a five-yard touchdown pass to Desmond Sibley. Miller than tacked on the PAT, and the Roos were up 7-0 in the first.

Kentwood then extended their lead when Miller threw his second touchdown pass of the first quarter. Miller connected with Torandan Watson on a three-yard pass for a touchdown, and with the PAT, the Roos were up 14-0.

Miller McCoy got on the board in the second and cut the Roos lead to 14-6, but Kentwood came right back and add to their lead. Demarco Diamond scored on a 21-yard run to give the Roos a 20-6 lead in the second quarter.

The Roos held on to that 20-6 lead as they went into the locker room up by 14 points. Kentwood's Offense had good balance in the game as they finished the night with 168-yards rushing and 163-yards passing.

Give Miller McCoy credit as they did not quit, and they cut the Roos lead once again in the third quarter of the game. Trailing only 20-13 as the teams went into the final twelve minutes, Miller McCoy was in position for the upset.

But the Roos would finish the game strong with 14 unanswered points in the final quarter of the game. Harlan Miller threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Desmond Sibley, and then Eugene Buckner put the game on ice as he scored on a 13-yard run. The Roos went on to win the game 34-13.

The Kangaroos travel for the big rival game against Southern Lab on Thursday, November 3.
