NEW ORLEANS--Justin and Megan Roberts of Tangipahoa Parish were awarded the Excellence in Agriculture Award, given to those who do not derive the majority of their income from agriculture, but still find ways to contribute to it. Justin is a large animal veterinarian Megan is an Assistant Extension Agent with 4-H.

The award came recently from Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation, meeting in New Orleans.

This year’s Award of Merit was given to two parishes this year, recognizing parish Young Farmer & Rancher committees for their role in furthering agriculture and encouraging young members to join Farm Bureau.

This year’s winners were Tangipahoa Parish, chaired by Amelia Levin Kent and East Baton Rouge Parish, chaired by Vic Womack.  
Chris Bertrand of St. Landry Parish is the winner of this year’s Discussion Meet. The Discussion Meet is a forum allowing YF&R members to hold forth on the subjects most pertinent to modern agriculture. This year’s topics included animal production and care, as well as renewable energy policy. 
Also at the awards program the Avoyelles Parish Women’s Leadership Committee was awarded the 2012 WLC Award of Excellence. Avoyelles Parish Women’s Leadership Committee Chair Dorothy Johnson accepted the award for her parish. The award recognizes the critical role farm women play in volunteer activities and rural life.

he Acadia Parish Farm Bureau took home this year’s President’s Trophy, the top honor awarded by the Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation, during state’s largest general farm organization’s 90th annual convention. 
Acadia Parish President Al Cramer accepted the award on behalf of the parish membership from Farm Bureau President Ronnie Anderson. The award is the highest honor bestowed during the farm group’s annual meeting and topped a list of award winners that included the state’s top young farmer, top young farm woman, award of excellence winner and discussion meet winner.
The Louisiana Farm Bureau is the state’s largest general farm organization. Founded in 1922, the Farm Bureau provides legislative, commodity, public relations and marketing resources to the state’s farmers and ranchers.
