Can you believe that this is the final week of the 2010 prep football season already? As we enter the final week of the season, several teams have a lot on the line as far as the playoffs are concerned.

A handful of teams are already in the playoffs; a few have locked up a first round playoff game at home; and a couple of teams really need to win in order to have a shot at the post season. Only one local team that is a member school of the LHSAA has been eliminated from post season play, and that is the St. Helena Central Hawks.

Ok, let's start in Class 1A with the Kentwood Kangaroos. The Roos will play rival Southern Lab this weekend for the district 6-1A Title. Kentwood looks like they are in with a rating of 11.29 and currently sitting at the 24th spot. If the Roos lose to the Kittens, they will probably still be in, and if they win, they would move up several spots. They need to get to #16 to host a first round game.

In each of the five classes, the top 32 teams make the playoffs with the top 16 teams hosting first round games. Now moving up to class 2A, the STA Falcons are hanging on by a thread.

The Falcons are seeded 31st as they enter week ten, and need a victory to assure themselves a playoff spot. However, the Falcons' win over Independence earlier this season could be enough to get them in, even if they lose their final game.

Way up in Class 5A, both parish teams would be in the playoffs if they started this week. Ponchatoula is currently seeded 10th and may have already earned a home playoffs game, but with a win over rival Hammond this weekend, they can assure themselves of a first round game at home.

Hammond needs to beat the Green Wave to get in, as the Tornadoes are currently at #30 going into the final week of the season. Now in class 3A, things get a little tricky. Amite has already locked up a home playoff game and enters this week as the third seed behind #1 Redemptorist and #2 Notre Dame.

The Loranger Wolves are tied with three other teams at the seventh spot. The Wolves may be able to host a first round game at home, even without a win over Amite. If the Wolves beat the Warriors, they could be a top five seed this season.

Now this is where it gets fun. How competitive is district 9-3A? Well, if the playoffs were to start this week, all six teams in the district would be in the playoffs. Albany is currently #30, and Bogalusa is at #23 and already in.

Right now Sumner is at #16, and Independence is at #17, meaning that the Cowboys would host the Tigers if the playoffs began this weekend. So as we enter the final week of the season, there is a lot to play for, and for some teams, the playoffs have already begun.
