The Lower Ninth Ward Village, a non-profit, community-led, community-driven organization, paired with students from Berkeley, California, came to visit Greensburg in May to help plant crops on Richard Johnson's farm. On Thursday, June 23, the Village came back to Greensburg to harvest their crops. This time, they were accompanied by students from the University of Oregon.

The students came to visit the Lower Ninth Ward Village for one day during Spring Break. Upon their visit, they decided to come back for a two week period to volunteer their time in harvesting the many crops that have been planted. They harvest from their crops at least every other day and are expecting to harvest 20 or more bushels of okra and peas alone, plus the many other vegetables that have been planted.

The Lower Ninth Ward Village will be here harvesting until all their crops are finished producing. They will have more volunteers coming from Chicago, Illinois next week to help in the hard work of gardening. "We are very fortunate to have all the rain to replenish our crops from this dry spell," stated Executive Director Ward McClendon.
