August 9, 1989 - Valvoline oil is 99 cents a quart at Napa Auto Parts. The Village Wear House had a Back to School sale with misses skirts for $20. William L. Pearce has been appointed as a district forester to head the State Office of Forestry operations. Denim jumpers are $18.99 to $20.99 at T-W-L Department Store.
August 7, 1974 - Wallace Dees is a new salesman at McClendon, Patenotte Insurance. Cadet Russell Forshag attended Army Reserve Officer Training Camp. He is a student at SLU. Marine Cpl. Dennis Edwards is on temporary duty at the Naval Amphibious Base, Little Creek, VA. The Three Musketeers is playing at University Cinema. Rump roast, trimmed choice meat is $1.69 lb. at Quality Grocery. Amar Tire Mart held its grand opening with a front end alignment for $9.95.
August 6, 1969 - B. Stern's is having a final clearance sale with men's suits for $15. Quality Grocery has US No. 1 red potatoes for 39 cents a 10 lb. bag. "Bonnie and Clyde" with Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway is playing at the Mitchell Drive-In. Amite 4-H Club member Randy Bracey attended 4-H Short Course in Washington. Specialist Four Perry L Spears was assigned as a radio operator with the 1st Signal Brigade in Vietnam.
August 11, 1950 - Sergeant Dudley C. Gill has been reported as being wounded in Korea. Sergeant Gill attended Chesbrough High School and enlisted in the US Army 17 years ago. Mrs. Fannie Ricks, known to her friends as "Aunt Fannie" celebrated her 80th birthday. The Bus Station Cafe now has 24 hour service. They serve tasty and delicious short orders, fried chicken, steaks, sandwiches and more. "The Inspector General" was playing at The Amite Theatre.
