IHMS band instructor offers jump-start into music
Students from Independence Leadership Academy and Independence High Magnet School spent the last two weeks of summer attending IHMS Band Instructor Phillip Shelley’s band camp at the school’s campus.
During the two-week program, which ran from July 17-28, Shelley introduced the students to the basic concepts of musical theory, such as reading music, producing sound, cadence, and rhythm. The camp allowed students who had never played an instrument before to learn about music and give them an advantage before joining the band in high school.
