A Lifetime Of Good Deeds Down The Drain

Recently, I watched the movie “Paterno.” The movie is about the career of former Penn State football Coach, Joe Paterno. The movie focuses on the events in the last week or two of Paterno’s career when Penn State was engulfed with the Jerry Sandusky scandal. Jerry Sandusky was the long-time Penn State Defensive Coordinator who was convicted of having sex with numerous young boys.

But let’s back up several years. Joe Paterno, for years, was held in high esteem as the Penn State football coach. At one time he even said his program was “the grand experiment;” ie… Paterno wanted to prove that you could play winning football in the NCAA and your players would go to class and graduate. Paterno affectionately known as “JoePa,” was a legend on the Penn State sideline. For years, he had stood on the sideline with his standard look of framed glasses, light blue button-down shirt, a navy tie, khaki’s with the hem rolled up and black Nike tennis shoes. Paterno had made generous donations to the school library. He himself, was an Ivy League graduate… graduating from Brown.
