TPSO News Release - 7.24 - Narcotics Arrest
HAMMOND, LA - July 24, 2018 - Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards reports the following arrest:
On July 20, 2018, the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office Narcotics Unit arrest a female in the act of pushing pills on our streets.
The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office Narcotics Detectives were responding to the area of Contempo Apartment Complex due to a complaint of illegal narcotics activity when they subsequently found themselves right in the middle of illegal narcotics transaction.
As detectives were responding to the call for service, they were stopped by two vehicles obstructing the roadway on Quick Blvd. Detectives sat and watched as a female, later identified as 28-year-old Markeiha Tonnette BAKER of Hammond, LA, exited one of the vehicles and approached the other. Detectives observed BAKER take currency from an unknown subject before she was witnessed dropping pills into unknown subject's hand.
As detectives sprung into action, the unknown subject fled the scene as BAKER attempted to re-entered her vehicle. BAKER was immediately detained and was found to be holding two bags of pills. Upon closer inspection, eighty-two (82) of the pills where believed to be Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), commonly known as ecstasy (E). Detectives also discovered 8 suspected Tramadol 50mg tablets as well as small amount of suspected marijuana. Detectives also seized $1,125.00 which they believe to be the proceeds of illegal narcotics distribution.
BAKER was charged with RS 40:966A1 distribution of CDS I" MDMA",RS 40:966E possession of CDS I "Marijuana", and RS 40:969 possession of CDS IV "Tramadol".
