Tangipahoa Parish is at the forefront of the agriculture industry

Louisiana State Agriculture Commissioner Dr. Mike Strain, DVM was the key speaker for the Amite Rotary's June 26 meeting.

Dr. Strain explained the Department of Agriculture's role in state government and the importance of trade. The largest crops that Louisiana produces are poultry, sugar cane, soybeans and forestry. In just Tangipahoa Parish alone, there is over $80 million in agriculture in farmer's hands. Dr. Strain informed everyone that there are 26,900 farms in Louisiana with 1,874 located in Tangipahoa Parish.
