Northshore Technical Community College Receives $107K Dept. of Labor Grant
November 13, 2017, the U.S. Department of Labor’s Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) awarded more than $10 million in grant funding to support safety and health courses aimed at reducing mining accidents, injuries, and illnesses. Northshore Technical Community College (NTCC) will receive $107,120 of these grant dollars to support MSHA programming and certification courses at their Greensburg, LA campus. Awards were made to 47 states, the Navajo Nation, Guam, and the Native Village of Barrow (Alaska).
Funds will be used to develop and deliver federally mandated training. This type of training ensures workers remain in compliance and aids in job placement and security in the industry. Training will cover miners working at surface and underground coal and metal and nonmetal mines, including those engaged in shell dredging or employed at surface stone, sand, and gravel mining operations.
