School Board quickly tables increase for Thomas Bellavia
A recommendation to give Tangipahoa Parish School Board Asst. Supt. Tomas Bellavia an $1,800 per month stipend to take on the responsibilities of a chief academic officer was quickly tabled by the board during its February 20 meeting following severe criticism from a teacher union official.
The board has seemingly made no attempt to hire a CAO since Theresa Hamilton left in July. Bellavia has been handling those duties, and the Personnel Committee recommended that he be awarded the $1,800 monthly stipend for the extra work.
But Ryan Lawrence, president of the Tangipahoa Association of Educators, strongly objected to the proposal on behalf of the TAE membership.
