Barbara Bush, wife of former President George H.W. Bush and mother of former President George W. Bush, passed away recently. It was reported that on the day of her death, her husband, George H.W., sat by her bedside all day and held her hands until she passed. When I heard that, I thought of another lady that was a member of a church where I was
Pastor, who had the same experience. Several years ago, this lady’s health took a drastic turn for the worse and in time, the physicians told the family there was nothing else they could do. As this lady lay dying, I watched as her husband sat beside the bed… holding her hands… until she passed. Holding someone’s hand is a gesture of love and support. Children hold hands with one another. When they do, it means they are friends. A teenage boy or girl meet, begin talking and in time, if things are going right between them, the boy might try to hold the girl’s hand… it means he likes her. If she takes his hand, she likes him too.
