James Donald Spring, 78, of Kentwood, LA passed away April 15, 2017 at his home surrounded by family and friends.
Visitation was Monday, April 17, 2017 at East Fork Baptist Church, Kentwood, LA from 5 PM until 8:00 PM and Tuesday, April 18, 2017 from 9:00 AM until services at 11:00 AM at the church. Burial will be in East Fork cemetery Rev. Mike Shumock and Dr. Ernest Graham will officiate. Hartman-Iones Funeral some is in charge of the arrangements.
James Donald Spring was born April 28, 1938 to Clayton and Ione Tate Spring. Mr. Spring was a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother-in-law, and uncle. He was a lifelong member of East Fork Baptist Church, Kentwood, LA, where he served-as usher, and a dedicated choir member. He retired from LA Dept of Weights and Standards as a Lt. He was a camp chaplain for twenty plus years for the Sons of the Confederates at Camp Moore Camp 1223. He was also known as “Gravy” by his close friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, an infant sibling, a brother Aaron Spring, grandson-in-law Lewis Curl and granddaughter, Mandy Dennis Tackett.
He is survived by his spouse of thirty eight years, Evelyn Travis Spring, two daughters; Loretta Tackett Wilson and husband Randy of Kentwood, Anita Tacked Wall and husband Johnny of Cabool, MO, and a son Eugene Tackett and his wife Tammy of Kentwood, five grandchildren; Paige Curl of Lincoln, CA, Kimber Henington and husband Justin of Ponchatoula, LA, Travis Tackert and his wife Haylie of Thomas, LA, Johnny Wall ,Jr. of Cabool, MO and Delane Wilson (his Sugar Booger) of Kentwood, four great grandchildren; .Piper Watts of Alabana, Wyatt Holtman of Jackson, TN, Evelyn Curl of Lincoln CA and Emma Herrington of Ponchatoula. LA, a sister-in-law, Janis Spring of Baton Rouge, LA, a brother-in-law; Ken Travis and his wife Charlene of Hammond, LA, a very special aunt, Marie Tate, two nieces; Melissa Spring Benjamin of McAlester, Ok and Suzonne Travis Phillips of Hammond,, LA; two nephews, Michael Spring of Baton Rouge, LA and Kevin Travis of Hammond LA and their children along with several cousins.
Pallbearers Will be: Ted Dykes, Roger Tate, Mike Spring, Steve Spring, Travis Tackett and Randy Wilson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dewitt Strickland, Charles Spring, Earl Forrest, Justin Hendry, Butch Vornado, Johnny Wall, Sr., Justin Herrington and Carrol Esch.
Special Thanks to Louisiana Hospice and Palative care for the wonderful care they gave Mr. Spring during his illness.
